“You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.”-James Clear, Atomic Habits.
Do you work out harder with a trainer or in an exercise class than you do on your own?
I certainly do. I stop after 10 reps on my own instead of getting to 15. I probably have a shorter workout. And I show up less often on my own.
It’s not that my goals are different when I’m on my own. But when I have someone to partner with me, someone to hold me accountable, I get a lot more done.
James Clear calls this a “system”. Thinking about goals – and the necessary steps – as a system, has been the best lever in getting me closer to what I want to accomplish.
From getting me active first thing in the morning, to ensuring I disconnect from devices in the evening. And I got a terrific coach: Just like a fitness trainer, my coach challenges me to reach higher and holds me accountable.
I would love to know – what simple systems have you created to keep you on track? Will you create one new system today that can help you achieve something you want in your life?
